Before & After: KC Garage Remodel Transformation
See How We Transformed This Kansas City Area Garage into Livable Space
In the Kansas City area, garages often become a catch-all: tools, toys and unfinished corners that never quite feel complete. But with the right design and planning, your garage can be so much more.
This project in Raymore, Missouri proves how a once old, dirty, crumbling, termite-infested garage can become a bright, functional extension of the home. Whether you’re dreaming of a home gym, workshop, or cozy flex space, here’s how we helped one local family transform theirs.
Before
Garage Before: Heaving concrete floors, peeling paint, wood paneling, storage problems, minimal lighting, dysfunctional cabinetry and popcorn ceilings. This garage felt more like an abandoned storage unit than a welcoming place to come home.
After
Garage After: Fresh paint, new storage, repaired concrete, floating tile floor, mudroom drop zone, plywood ceiling, new lighting and new insulation behind the walls.
Now, it’s clean, repaired, re-insulated and designed for everyday use. What a welcoming place to come home to. For paint, we chose Sherwin Williams Snowbound on the walls and trim.
PROJECT GOALS & CHALLENGES
The homeowners wanted to turn their garage into a more usable, organized space without losing storage. Key goals included:
Replacing insulation and drywall to better regulate temperature
Improving lighting and electrical access
Repair the heaving concrete flooring
Installing low-maintenance flooring
Creating storage space zones (workshop, mudroom, yard games)
Mid-project discovery: repair termite damage throughout
Before
Garage Before: Heaving, cracking, peeling concrete floors, wood paneling, storage struggles, poor lighting, dysfunctional cabinetry and popcorn ceilings.
After
Garage After: Floating tile garage floor, workbench, new tool storage solutions, fresh paint, plywood ceiling, new recessed lighting throughout.
DESIGN DETAILS
Color Scheme: White on the walls with wood and black accents
Flooring: Floating tile floors for breathability, easy cleanup and a professional finish
Storage: Garage storage cabinets, tool box and wall mounted storage for drills and batteries
Lighting: Recessed black LED fixtures and task lighting over work zones
Plywood Ceiling: Finished plywood ceiling for warmth
Attic Access: Hidden attic access panel with plywood
Workbench: New workbench with labels & better tool storage
Before
Garage Before: termite damage throughout garage walls, wood paneling and even the paper surface of the drywall. Studs were also affected and needed to be properly repaired and treated.
We discovered this horrible past termite infestation during demo. The infestation was old and had been previously treated, but we didn’t know the true extent of the damage. It’s a good thing we did, because many of the exterior wall studs were compromised.
After
Garage After: All of the termite damage was repaired, insulation and drywall was all replaced. To prevent future termite problems, we also replaced the floor trim with a pvc trim product instead of wood. The heaving concrete was repaired and sealed, and new floating garage floor tiles were installed on top. New storage solutions for the work bench and ladders were also installed.
Before
Garage Before: popcorn ceilings, damaged drywall and fluorescent lights, untrimmed attic access.
After
Garage After: Plywood ceiling installed with trim and matching attic access panel. This attic access panel was a challenge to figure out. The client wanted a plywood ceiling for aesthetics, but this attic panel still needed to exist and function. The solution? Make it match! Now it looks and works beautifully.
Before
Garage Before: Ugly unpleasant garage entry door, heaved cracking garage floor, dysfunctional storage, clutter.

THE RESULT
I mean... 😍
This finished garage feels bright, organized, and inviting. It’s a welcoming extension of the home. It now functions as a multi-purpose space: part entry, part storage, part workshop, and part toy zone.
The transformation not only improved daily usability but also added value to the home, showing how investing in functional spaces can make a big impact in Kansas City’s competitive housing market.
But even more important, the homeowners now feel happy when they come home to this beautiful garage entry.
